Don't go to college for a bullshit degree in underwater basket weaving, and expect the government to pay for it.

This is from my perspective as a high school senior who is going to community college for this very exact reason but you are 100% correct. Not saying it’s good or that it should be this way but with how it is now there should be some expectation of being realistic on the part of people who go to college. I go to high school in a area where it’s automatically assumed all will go to college even if there are some who will do better working in a trade or starting a career straight out of high school, never once is a trade or vocational school presented to you as an option. The “follow your dreams” people also get to kids and convince them that it’ll all work out no matter what, just sign for that loan that will set you back $70k in four years. I think another thing is being smart with how and where you go to school; like I mentioned I am going to community college to not have to take out any loans until my third year and will then probably commute to a nearby university, this idea that the school you go to has to have the best party scene or the best roller skating rinks (that was seriously advertised to me in a letter from one of these schools) is seriously ruining people.
