They Don't Even Taste That Good Anymore (I), oil on canvas, 24x30"

The focal point of the painting is the girl's face, conveying a sense of entrapped bemusement. The eye then travels to the Lays logo and the word "Barbecue", which creates a certain Pavlovian reaction. However, this is tempered by the title of the painting, and instead conjures the familiar feeling of having eaten too much junk food. The pale glow of the monitor casts the scene in a kind of pathetic, depressing starkness, while the woman's intent focus on the screen creates a feeling almost like she is escaping the darkness around her through this artificial, superficial glow, which, like the Lays, don't even taste that good anymore, yet she can't turn it off otherwise she will be consumed by the darkness and emptiness of her life. The execution of the painting itself is somewhat weak and generic, and looks like it was painted from a photograph rather than from life, which creates a sense of separation from the subject matter. The painting might as well be a photoshop filter applied to a photograph. Ultimately, the painting doesn't accomplish much more than saying "DAE watch netflix all night and eat a whole bag of chips until they don't even taste that good anymore?" Overall 3.5/10
