Don't fucking drink and drive.

I'm really sorry op, drunk and distracted driving is one of the most - if not the most - preventable causes of death. This year I lost my lifelong best friend to alcohol - not driving drunk but liver failure. I'm not proud of it, but there were two events related to drunk driving that caused my personal wake up call which eventually resulted in my sobriety.

First was about 15 years ago when I was deep in the throes of alcoholism, waking up in my truck at home, asleep. In the driver's seat. With it running. It was noon. I didn't and still don't have any idea how I got there and my neighbor said I was there asleep at 7am when he left for work.

Three years later a guy pulled out in front of me while I was going 55. I have a permanent back injury from it that causes back pain and when it swells, cramps in my legs. My passenger was in the hospital for 45 days. That guy wasn't drunk then, supposedly, but he had lost his license ten years ago after his fourth DWI. Yes you read that right, he was driving without a license. He didn't go to jail and they didn't breathalyze him at the scene. I ended up having to sue him as he insurance company refused to pay, and we sued the county as well.

I'm saying this for other's reading this thread - I used to be a highly functioning horrible alcoholic. I drank and drove. If there was one thing I could change in my life, it would be that.
