Why don't more people just sell options? [serious question]

I should invest in the mega-millions lottery. After all, there's only 2 outcomes: I either hit the numbers and win $200 million, or guess wrong and lose $5. It's literally a 50/50 shot.

You're not making sense. We are talking about stock price movements. Not the lottery. These two things are not comparable.

You're not making sense.

I have no idea what point you're even trying to reach.

Like are you trying to tell me that stock prices go in circles? What exactly are you trying to say?

The fact is this (and this is inarguable):

  1. If you buy a stock you can only benefit if it goes up -- there is a 50/50 chance it will go up or down in any time from after you buy it for any reason.

  2. When you short a stock you can only benefit if it goes down -- there is a 50/50 chance it will go up or down in any time frame after you short it for any reason

  3. If you sell an Option (for example a bear call) the price of a stock can move down, or sideways, therefor allowing you to benefit on 2 out of 3 possible price directions (thus giving you a 66% probability the trade will work in your favor).

You're trying to talk about boxing and the lottery and all this other shit.

It either IS this way or it is NOT this way.

So please, either show me the other directions a stock can move either than up, down, or sideways.
