I don't understand what do I need and how do I install it?

if you’re going to pay for a vpn service just use the client software that they provide. It will be better configured for their particular setup and won’t require you to learn anything.

If you don’t need privacy then you could set up your home machine as a vpn server but that’s only really useful if you need access to acces your home network when you are out and about or if you want to hide your traffic from people snooping the free wifi at starbucks.

paid vpns are used by people who want to pirate videos without revealing their true ip address to the torrent or people who want to bypass region locking for streaming services.

You need to explain a oriole bit more about why you think you need a vpn if you want a recommendation on which type to use.
