I don't know what to do, we're outnumbered and nobody is listening.

I'm sorry to hear you say that because the only way things in this country are going to improve in terms of race relations is for situations like that to happen: face to face civil discussions from both points of view.

We bought a new home in January and one of the things that came with it was a 50 foot dual hoist flag pole. I've been too busy fixing other things that are wrong but did get it strung and plan on flying the following in the correct order of precedence: first hoist - The US flag, followed by the flag of the Commonwealth of Virginia; second hoist (always lower than the first) - any number of flags including the first, second, and third national flag for the CSA and possibly an historically accurate battle flag (note: square NOT the 20th century version).

Why? Because at last count, 75 of my ancestors fought under those flags. Some owned slaves. Some didn't. Some volunteered. Some were conscripted. Some died. Some were wounded. Some made it through without a scratch. Some deserted when the going got rough. Some hung on until Appomattox. But I'm pretty sure all of them were miserable and wanted nothing more but to go home - just like the guys on the other side who were holding the flag now at the top of the pole on the first hoist.

"Over in six months" should be floated as a reminder to any country considering going to war as an example of hubris.

If that offends you, I'm sorry. Truly. But I will not lower it. Not when so many of mine fought, bled and died under it. To do otherwise is to disavow where I came from and where my child comes from.

But you and your child are still welcome to have a burger in my back yard. And they both can go play on the slip and slide while we drink a beer and talk.
