Doom Eternal is a masterclass in FPS design

I recently went back to eternal and finally made it through it. Like others I enjoyed 2016 much, much more. On paper the lock and key mechanics of killing the enemies sounds great but it stifles the combat a lot imo, some of the arenas with the charging pinky become a mess because of how linear killing it is. The ammo upkeep feels fun at first but the solution to it is very linear too so it feels like a limiting factor instead of something that’s fun to solve imo.

It has some weird graphical issues too that feel unpolished. Every time you die there’s a 70% chance your “face” is gonna clip through the floor during the dying animation. Idk why it was left that way in a game where dying is so prevalent.

The multiplayer feels so bizzare , idk why they wouldn’t go with a solid TDM/DM style multiplayer. I think they were trying to do something new but it feels unintuitive to hop into.

Overall I had fun but I don’t wanna revisit it the same way I want to with the 2016 entry
