Doomberwatch ~ VideoGameDunkey

Eh, speaking as a female gamer, I find most of the salties players tend to be other females, but I kinda get it.

My argument is rage in video games tends to occur through death by a thousand cuts.

1 flame, no big deal.

10 flames, mildly annoying but you can deal with it.

100 flames, fuck you.

Eventually you start getting quicker and quicker to anger. Anger leads to shit like spite (refusing to heal).

It's not necessarily the straw that breaks the camel's back's fault, it's just a culmination of all the shit that does indeed break the camel's back.

I just want to play the game like anyone else, if I join voice chat - I'll get many more comments, often crude or prodding into my personal life, that I haven't experienced males talking to other males in that specific fashion.

I'll ask to focus on the game, people then call me a bitch for not playing along with them. If I choose not to talk into voice chat, I don't receive any of the comments. Just your usual "ur shit" or whatever that everyone gets.

So going back to my initial premise, death by a thousand cuts. Even if each match only nets you like 1 extra comment, that shit adds up.

It doesn't really deter me from joining and communicating because my want to win is greater than my annoyance for idiots but I understand if it's enough to make you not want to join up.

IMO at least in ranked part of the game is dealing with all the shit, and still call targets, still announce rez cd, anti-healed targets, amp cd, discorded targets, etc. End of the day, you need to eek out every advantage you can get.

BUT

Overwatch overall isn't that bad. Comments are rare and most of the toxicity isn't flaming, it's people giving up and AFK'ing in the spawn room. Those people need to get kicked in the ass way more than flamers, IMO.
