Doordash: a criminal organization. How is this not fraud?

They pretended to change their model. They Did Not.

Here is the progression.

  1. Old pay model. $1 + tip guaranteed. All no tip orders worth $4-$8 (depending on location and average tipping in the area that allowed them to retain more original driver pay by supplementing with tip and distributing the difference to no tip orders, probably minus their cut, because that is how they do everything.

  2. After NYT article. $2 +tip. Increase base pay when it has been declined too many times. Possibly order gets to 2 hours old before it is increased to viable pay and accepted. Driver gets 1 star for delivering cold food even though they just accepted the contract 15 minutes before delivery and had to drive 6 minutes to the restaurant and 6 minutes to the customer.

  3. After NYT 2.0. Modify guarantee offered to driver to hide all tips larger than $5.50. Change what Doordash pays at will, as long as it is equal or more to original guarantee. If the customer tips after delivery, Doordash modifies what they pay so the contractor still gets $2 + tip. They change base pay based on tip. (This IS the old model, but with $2 coming from DD instead of $1)

  4. After NYT 3.0. They realized that they had clearly stated they would not do what they did in 2.0. They show the entire offer, including tip, to the driver for a week. This is (one of? I've heard complaints before this) the stage at which they stole $2.33 from me. They guaranteed me a certain pay. It was supposed to have the tip hidden like 2.0 but they never changed the pay modification while they came up with a temporary solution. I was paid $2.33 less than guaranteed.

  5. After NYT 4.0. Remove message stating that driver sees the full total. Inform drivers that some of the tip may be hidden. Modify what DD pays the driver, at will, as long as that total + tip is equal or better than original guaranteed pay. If the customer tips after delivery, sneakily lower their base pay down to the $2 minimum pay.

Post-NYT-4.0 is almost identical to the original system except now they don't up the pay on no-tip orders until they have been declined enough times. They are making more, now, than they were in the original model.
