Double fatality crash in Elk Grove: The other side of the story. [Main story in link, story of my friends involved in the comments]

I am close friends with the two involved in the crash driving the challenger. I am writing this to hopefully give some insight on their side/add more to the story.

The driver (18) is a recent graduate of Sheldon High School, he taught me almost everything I know about baseball, and weightlifting; I see him as almost a brother figure. He worked the past two years trying and trying to get a scholarship and he finally did in his senior year, landing a dual scholarship for academics, and to play baseball at a college in San Francisco.

He is a great person, and he helps people often who are in need. He volunteers at the school he went to often; renovating the baseball field himself, building a clubhouse for the dugout, and building a snack bar/shed to use during games. He helps out in the community a lot, volunteering hours and hours to youth leagues and helping out a lot of younger kids who aspire to be great players.

Honestly the only bad thing about him was that he loves his car, specifically the speed of it. He bought the car with money he saved up and liked to push it to the limit; and unfortunately resulting in the deaths of a young married couple. I am unsure who is at fault for I have heard multiple stories however one seems to be consistent, that he was speeding, and they turned in front of him. He honestly would never intentionally hurt anyone, he just liked fast cars; and unfortunately as is the case with many young people with poor judgement, did hurt someone accidentally.

Not only that but he severely injured his younger brother (15, whom I am great friends with as well). He suffered a broken leg, a fractured arm, internal bleeding and had to undergo five hours of surgery including his face, and a rod inserted into his leg. He had been training all summer for the upcoming football season and now unfortunately it will be cut short.

Though I am greatly sorry for what happened to the young couple, I just hope that they will see he is not a bad person. He worked so hard to get his scholarship and his life was truly about to take off; and now with this his dreams of playing college baseball, and his younger brother's of football, are likely to fade away. He is just a young guy who made a horrible decision.
