Doubting mormon who just needs to talk.

I'm not Mormon and never really was, but my extended family traces back to people who were close with Joseph Smith and came to Utah with Brigham Young and did various things that are still talked about and sung about in church today. If I had wanted to, I probably could have gone far in the church just based on my name, but I never believed it at all. I could have used it to my advantage, but I just couldn't stand going. I have absolutely no regrets. The world outside the church is far more interesting. I wouldn't fear it.

If it's just the tithing you don't like, maybe you could just not pay it? I mean, I know you couldn't go to the temple, but is it really that great to go anyway? And as the priesthood holder can't you council your wife that it'll be ok? I don't mean to offend, and I apologize if I've characterized anything here in a misinformed or rude way, like I said, I was never really Mormon so I don't know all the details.
