How does wanting a multipolar world, justify support even if it's just nonsense on reddit when it requires defending an imperialist invasion by a right-wing dictator. Like I really don't understand this position by fellow leftists. Aren't we supposed to oppose wars of imperialism and conquest? I want to understand because so many people on the left who I otherwise admire have taken up a position like that. They seem like closet right-wingers now to me.
This kind of blind contrarianism is pretty much exclusive to the American left. Discussing foreign politics with American leftists is almost always a mistake. I'm not saying it doesn't exist in the European left, but it's much less common there. In fact, in Europe, especially Eastern Europe, the takes of far-righters are often almost indistinguishable from what American leftists say.
I'm not sure what is the root cause of this. Maybe the Vietnam war?
