Downstate hate: A history of the bitter, nearly 200-year rivalry between Chicago and the rest of Illinois

The federal government has a Constitutional power under the Commerce Clause to regulate inter-state trade. As soon as a product crosses state lines it opens itself up to federal regulation. While there are cases working their way through the courts to legalize cross-border commerce of marijuanna, as it currently stands, there IS a good reason to keep it within Illinois. Trying to export the product made in Illinois will give the federal government an open door to crack down using tools that other states have not yet had to confront.

When the federal regulators legalize this product, Illinois can allow its farmers to enter the national market, but it would be too soon if Illinois allowed for its marijuanna to cross state lines as a state policy.
