Dragon Ball Super Episode 64 Review, Feedback appreciated frens :]]

You asked for feedback so here we go,

It took you took 40 seconds to start actually commenting on the episode, before that you were just talking about how excited you are to talk about the episode. If I just happened upon your video on YouTube I'd either have started skipping ahead or I'd have closed your video and moved on.

You then spent the next four minutes and forty seconds recapping the episode. If I'm coming to you for a review of the episode, then that means that most likely I've already seen the episode. A blow by blow recap doesn't really give me anything, so I'd either start skipping ahead or close the video and move on.

Mafabu, mabasu, whatever it's called.

Things like this make me feel like you don't really care about the series, especially when it would be easy to stop recording, go to Google, find out what it is, and then continue.

You're on the edge of your seat the entire time, it's so hype.

Unless you explain why it's so hype, commentary like this is basically worthless. While you did talk about how you felt about certain elements of the episode during your recap, it was entirely with throw away phrases that don't explain why you felt a certain way.

After your recap, the next minute and a half is just speculation. This is at least content that is original to you, so it isn't so bad. It would be more interesting if you shared why certain things might go a certain way based on the story structure for example, instead of just listing what you think might be cool.

The final three minutes is you talking about your impressions about Dragon Ball Super as a whole, which you then transition into promoting your channel.

Your commentary about how Dragon Ball Super picks up as the story goes on is valuable, but it feels a bit tacked on and detached from any commentary about this episode in particular.

To summarize, I think the main things your review needs are as follows.

  1. Commentary that critiques and analyzes as opposed to merely describes. Tell me why you think something is cool, not just that you do. Only describe what happens in the episode as a way to present evidence for your critical arguments and analysis, or at least keep your summaries short.

  2. Intentional structure. Have all of your pieces work together to make a unified point.

I do think there's something unique and interesting you can present here, but it needs a lot of restructuring.

I'd suggest starting this review with your impressions on Dragon Ball Super as a whole, and how that after catching up with the series you were compelled to start reviewing it.

Then, quickly recap where the story is.

Afterwards, use the parts of the story you featured in the recap as examples as to why you think Dragon Ball Super is headed in the right direction and why it is drawing you in. For example maybe you could talk about how Dragon Ball has always been about lure building, and while Super expands on the lore it at the same time reaches back to parts of the lore long forgotten such as the Mafuba technique.

After providing three examples, sum things up and give your score. Say something like, "All in all, I give this episode a 7.5 out of 10. I can't wait to see where this story is going, and if you want to experience it with me, please subscribe for more reviews of Dragon Ball Super." or something like that.

Those are my thoughts.

Kudos to you for actually making something. I keep telling myself eventually I'll make review videos, but I can never get around to actually making myself do it.
