A drawing of what I've seen during sleep paralysis

I'm a skeptic of course, but I have successfully had a waking-dream once using psychedelic drugs (DXM). Like you said, I lay still and felt like I was hiding inside my own brain (hiding the fact that I was conscious).

Eventually, my brain seemed to think I had fallen asleep, and so I started dreaming... the dream formed as a blue glow that got brighter and brighter until I was standing on a beach. My whole body felt cold and foreign and numb and so I panicked and moved my hand and the dream faded away.

Another time, during a guided meditation session (my friend was in a drug rehab program and invited me along for the guided meditation part). An hour before the session, I ate 30 pills.

I distinctly recall becoming an electron and flying around my body for awhile. After that, the trip became darker and I remember floating out of my body and under ground. I was in a mine cart, and I heard the leader's voice softly counting and watched his head float by my vision.

I was riding a minecart around under ground like a rollercoaster when he got to the part where we would "wake up." He turned on the light and I opened my eyes and I was under my chair - I could see the backs of my shoes and I panicked, closed my eyes and shook my head, and I was back in my body.

That's as weird as it's gotten for me... I've never snapped out of my body, although a final story was me at 16 alone in my bed (again, tripping). I remember hearing my body fighting the drugs (audio hallucinations basically saying 'We're under attack - hold them back!').

I remember softly floating over the grass in front of my house and just kind of drifting around out there.

Finally, last story - I was at Quakecon a couple years ago and I ate a bunch of pills and went to the bathroom. I don't know when or how it happened, but at some point I was standing in a white room - there was nothing but white all around me.

In this room, I saw a woman who I just remember as being asian and I remember she had a broom and was sweeping the walls of this room and symbols were appearing all over the walls in bright colors and fading in.

I asked her what she was doing and she smiled at me and told me she was "painting the universe back into existence for me." I asked her what the symbols were and all she said was "Well, you won't remember this anyway, so ..." and that's the last thing I remember.

The next thing I remember, I'm standing in a bathroom stall experiencing the craziest audio hallucinations (people clapping for me, applauding, cheering, etc.). I went back to my computer and plugged my headphones in and became "one with my computer."

So, I'm skeptical, but I have also experienced a few things that are similar. Sometimes, reminiscing makes me want to explore those avenues further, but responsibilities and whatnot....
