Why do you drive that thing?

I've driven a car with no power anything a few times, it was a VW Golf II (no idea what year, but they were built till '92) my brother got for free, it's got something like 250k miles on it (400k kms).

It honestly drove surprisingly normal. I mean yeah the gear selector has ririculous amounts of play, the motor mounts are probably no longer existent and the headlights are straight up dangerously ineffective compared to modern cars but I was kinda expecting it to be much worse. I used it to get around town for a few days and it never felt inadequate. I'd have some concerns against going on a longer trip at night mostly due to the terrible headlights and I'm not sure if I would want to try doing much more than 60mph with it in its current dilapidated state, but if it was in good condition I'd probably be fine with dailying it.

Also, I accidentally managed to let it sit outside the train station for an entire day with the doors unlocked and the key in the ignition and it was still there in the evening, so that was nice.
