Driving on a lone road through an open wheat field, nothing to worry about

  • Dune (Early 1992, Amiga)

  • Dune 2 (Late 1992, Amiga & Sega Megadrive)

  • Dune 2000 (1998, PC)

  • Emperor: Battle For Dune (2001, PC)

This is based on the U.K / European names and releases. Dune 2 was released in the US on the Megadrive (I forget the US name for it) as Dune, for some reason. I guess because the first one wasn’t released for that system, so it made sense to have that as the start of the series.

Dune was a nice adventure strategy based on the book/movie plots of sorts. Later in the year, Dune 2 released and began the RTS genre, which Westwood then continued for years by starting the C&C series. Dune 2000 and Emperor: Battle For Dune* were both basically each an upgrade on the previous game; the former turned the game properly 3D and added fun video cutscenes with a new plot played out in three different ways based on which house you controlled, added more diverse missions and troops/buildings, and the latter improved on the graphics, had another new plot with video cutscenes, added even more troops and ally options, plus added some more missions that took place elsewhere, rather than it being totally on Arrakis.
