Dual JD or not? (Canada and USA practice)

Well most states in the US require a JD from an ABA accredited law school to even sit for the bar. A few will let you take the bar with a foreign JD and an LLM in American Law from an ABA accredited law school.

If you want to easily practice in both countries, then getting both JDs might be worth it. If you mainly want to practice in Canada, then get a Canadian JD and maybe an LLM in American Law if you might also want to practice in certain states (I believe NY let's foreign lawyers with an LLM take the bar). If you mainly want to practice in the US, then definitely get an American JD and see if there is something similar in Canada that will let foreign lawyers practice there with an additional degree.
