What makes airpods special?

For me personally, it's how they work with other Apple devices. When I'm listening to something on my Mac with my AirPods and my iPhone rings, can the $50-60 product automatically switch over -- with no intervention by me -- before the person calling hangs up? Then, when the call is over, can I start the YouTube video on my Mac again and have it automatically take focus back from the iPhone? I've owned a lot of the competitors to AirPods, and the answer to the above was always "no, at least not without some fiddling and not before the caller hangs up." They also work flawlessly (without the hand-off features, obviously) with my PC, better than any Bluetooth headphones I've ever used.
