This dude flexing in Auschwitz

I was following this thread of comments and was thinking of the 9/11 memorial before you mentioned it because I was unfortunately one of those people. Kind of. I remember going to the 9/11 memorial when I was ~ 12 years old, and my mom asked my brother and I to pose for a photo. We had walked up some staircase where the view behind us was of the entire memorial space. Instinctually we both smiled as she took the photo. Afterwards we were all like... Wtf did we just do? It was like an immediate regret and realization that that was gross. We were in a serious and somber mood the whole time too, even leading up to the photo. But I guess being a touristy place, taking pictures everyday and having the habit of smiling while picture-taking led to the incident but we all felt really weird right after. Idno what the point of this anecdote is, since it was a time before social media and I assume the people that frustrate you are legit dickheads that want social media clout. Just sharing another perspective on photography in memorial settings, I guess.
