I'm confused... If you renounced UK why would it affect your JP... They want you to choose one...

But to get to your point as long as your renew your passport (JP) at 20 when you become an adult you have another 10 years before you have to renew it. If you don't have a childs Japanese passport, get it. It'll help the process to show you are legitimate. Less interaction with the government office the better (once youre an adult). I have US and Japanese passport and when I showed it to the Japanese consulate in Spain she even helped me fill the paperwork and get a passport the next day before leaving for another city (My mom has been extremely petty and does not like the fact I have both and she had to renounce to obtain a US citizenship).
