Dunkey's Best of 2020

"It's comedy" doesn't suddenly make what you said true lol.

What do you mean, true? I just gave my own opinion.

The joke he is making is pretty obviously his frustration with being unable to open the door. The joke is not that he's frustrated for no reason since he can just push it open.

Okay?

...doors opening both ways is not an opinion. And no one is butthurt. And not bothering to push the door open is not an excellent point.

The opinion is that there is a lot of things that slow your movement throughout the game -- I was pretty dismayed when the puzzle feature in HL Alyx was glued to your ability to get a reward for grinding or even worse - getting a mission required item.

Half Life and puzzles go hand in hand - what made HL:1 puzzles so great was because you had to venture long distances through several level loads to complete a larger mission. At the time of HL:1's release, this was a level of respect given to the player that was deeply loved. In HL:2, the puzzles were buried within the new source engine, allowing you to draw bridges up by putting heavy items in a certain spot, use gravity to your advantage, and more. In HL: Alyx, the puzzles are actually just puzzles. They aren't rewarding - they're very interesting at first, but after the first few, it becomes a "jesus okay hold on I really want to keep exploring this world but I gotta fuckin move this beacon thing without hitting the red things".

It's a worthy critique. The door is a hilarious example of that - you can open it both ways but how HL: Alyx's world is designed, it doesn't feel that obvious. I did the EXACT same thing he did with the first boarded up door.

Also, once again, his opinion is an opinion - you're framing it as a 'statement' because it suits YOUR opinion that Dunky's critique was unfoudned because you yourself didn't experience the frustration he did.

That isn't a criticism of Alyx, that's just saying you wished it wasn't VR. Basically everyone that's played it agrees that it is a great game.

It is 100% a criticism of HL: Alyx, you're appealing to the majority view to support this, which is weak. Lots of people loved HL Alyx. I was waiting for more years than I can count for Episode 3. Imagine how I felt when this amazing game was released at a time when I couldn't afford to buy a better PC/VR. I experienced it through youtube play throughs because the cost of entry wasn't going to get easier for me anytime soon.

HL: Alyx skews to people who love VR and are likely early-adopters in VR. Because thats all who could play it.

You're free to have your opinion, but you're not free to claim your opinion is a factual statement, just because the majority views as such. We could draw on politics for any number of analogies.

I'm not even sure what this has to do with anything, you're on some weird tangent.

I'm not - in Dunky's HL: Alyx review, he makes several comments about the cost of entry. I'm sorry, did you only want to discuss the clip of Dunky and the door in a vacuum? That seems like a disingenuous way to frame Dunky's review.

And anyway, there is zero evidence that that's the issue Dunkey had with the game.

I'm beginning to think you're either incapable of putting 2 and 2 together or if just haven't watched Dunky's video about VR and his video about HL: Alyx.

Idk why gamers always take it so personally when someone doesn't like something they like.
