Duterte 'confesses' he molested their maid as a teen

Most Canadians aren't bigoted against our first Nations more that we're just tired of throwing money at a problem that doesn't ever change.

New module homes that fall apart again in a couple years. Economic opportunities that could liberate tribes blockaded at every turn. Corrupt hereditary chiefs making obscene annual salaries.

I feel terrible for the average indigenous Canadian but I think a lot of us are at the point that the leadership needs to be held accountable by their own people. God forbid the feds can't do it.

Finally, having grown up in Manitoba there is a, sad reality that most public figures avoid. Some of these remote reserves are just economically unsustainable. It's no wonder youth suicide is an epedimic. Some of these places just aren't economically viable in a modern world. What's the solution? Continuing to blanket throw money at them and continue to see sub par conditions?

I don't know the answer. But it's an issue I've accepted will never be resolved in my lifetime and I'm in my 20s.

Living now in one of our big 3 metro centres an aspect little realize is counting on collective white guilt is not a long term strategy. Some of the recent immigrant communities here have not near the amount of sympathy white populations do. Indo Canadians thinking like how they hustled and came from slums and worked their assets off to make a life here and feel no obligation for their taxes to go to this.

It's going to get much much messier as Canada becomes less white overall and newer populations feel much less historical obligation and compare struggles to their own.

It's the never ending problem of our confederation and I am aghast to know what the answer is. All I see is platitudes from politicians who don't propose anything that'll actually bring about change and fakely invoke 'we're on traditional territory of X today' at every public ceremony. Some are genuine for sure, but it's mainly a check the box exercise for most politicians.

But we'll keep on going in the cycle of guilt, irritation, frustration, anger etc on all sides with politicians thinking more money will placate the problem. Sigh.
