E3-E4 promotion error HELP!

Ok so we stop helping a Soldier purely based on his past actions? Wtf? That's how's we breed shitty Soldiers. OP claims said Soldier is a great Soldier, so what does his previous mistakes have anything to do with his current work performance whatsoever?

Sure, under no circumstances should anyone drive drunk nor should it be tolerated, but he paid his dues in a civilian court. It seems to me that's punishment enough. And if said Soldier has learned his lesson from that, why punish him further? The NCO creed states that punishment and reward is handed evenly.

"Oh, so and so got kicked out or got UCMJ though!" So that's what we do now? Punish Soldiers just because tradition? That's fucking bullshit. Everyone in this subreddit claims to hate doing things based on tradition until it actually comes does to it. Unnecessarily punishing Soldiers degrades morale. Low morale leads to shitty Soldiers. I've seen it happen to many Soldiers and I've been there myself.

Tradition is a shitty excuse not to help a Soldier. Sure, he should be thanking the heavens he didn't get chaptered, but if he actually is the upstanding Soldier OP claims he is, why aren't we helping him? It's just E4 anyways.
