Easiest water heater to install?

I answered this question a few hours ago so I am going to cut and pate my early answer.

One does not simply replace a traditional water heater with a tankless water heater.

Tankless water heaters have MASSIVE power requirements. For the vast majority of homes in the United States this means upgrading your homes main power panel for the big bucks.

That is a really long return on investment if you spend $2,000 (national average) to upgrade your service panel to facilitate a tankless water heater. You might not see any return on your investment during your lifetime.

EDIT: If you were already considering upgrading your service panel to facilitate a plug in electric car then you would get more bang for your buck on the upgrade.
