Eastern Orthodox trying to understand Lutheranism (thinking of converting)

Lutheran Church of Australia is pretty confessional too, I think - someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Since you bring up Catholics for Choice -- something I struggle with is that while I'm personally opposed things like abortion and gay marriage (and certainly don't think the Church should uphold it), I go back and forth on if we have a legal right to restrict these things. We do have separation of church and state... I can certainly say "I don't think you should get married", and "my church won't marry you", but do I have a right to say "you can't go to the courthouse and get married in the eyes of the secular law?"
