Was eating 1800-2000cal per day (on & off of ketosis) for a year, while exercising regularly, but still no significant fat losses? – I'm Concerned that the recomp cut plan just won't "cut it" either.

Keto gains / lifting: I started lifting again in December and am following the SL5x5 protocol consistently so far. In addition I'm running or cycling 3x/week, whilst leading a mostly sedentary lifestyle, due to a desk-bound job. I joined /r/ketogains/[1] specifically recently to reach my goal of cutting 27lbs and getting down to around ~10% BF, while maintaining my current muscle mass. I don't need to be bigger or wider, just leaner. The numbers are arbitrary goals for the sake of having a goal. Health and visual appearance is what counts. Since I'm lifting again I lost ~6lbs already and got a bit slimmer (measurement wise), but for the time put in the progress is a bit underwhelming. I used the spread sheet to do my calculations and want to follow the 12w body recomp protocol to try cutting with a strategy. But to be honest I'm slightly concerned about the amount of calories to consume on lift days. According to the spread sheet I'm looking at 2400calories/day on lift days with the 20% deficit and even 2650 on the 10% cut days. As a result: The daily average over the course of a week would be in a similar range as it was the entire last year: 1800-2000 calories/day.

Are you saying you lost 6 pounds since December? If your goal is to cut 27 pounds, don't recomp. A recomp will generally keep you the same weight while adding mass/lowering BF. Darth recommends a lower BF before beginning a recomp. As others have said, if you aren't losing weight the fault lies in your tracking of calories, or for some reason your TDEE is lower than what you calculated which I verified at 2246. If I were cutting I would be:

  • 1797 kcal Daily Calorie Intake
  • 25 g Carbohydrates (6%, 100 kcal)
  • 130 g Protein (29%, 520 kcal)
  • 131 g Fat (65%, 1177 kcal)

Yes less carbs cause less cravings, but at the end of the day whatever your carb total is does not matter if calories in are greater than calories out. My advice, weigh your food, and max out at 1800 calories. Forget the recomp and stay on a cut.
