A much more compatible theory is that jews are simply attracted to, and construct, pseudoscience and radical political ideologies, which is the thesis of some evolutionary psychologists. Zionism, Marxism, leftism in general, attract jews.

The short answer is - there are a lot of different believes among the Jewish population. Like any other population really. They are not some kind of alien hive. And the point is - there are subcultures promoting Zionism.
Now for the longer answer:
Of course like you say all the Jews are not "in" and cannot be. That's the thesis of Normal Finkelstein I believe. Who says that "Jews are breaking up with Israel". This is probably happening. But not for the lack of trying from the more orthodox kind of Jews to sway them back:

Now one has to wonder: Why are those Jews who are in it for "their own financial gains" are financing such things?
Soros - I don't know much about him. He was against Bush. And Bush was very much pro Iraq war (which according to this theory should be good for Zionism). So one cannot quite put him in context easily without contradictions.
But at the same time I feel that one cannot ignore the Zionism as a movement and it's achievements for the Jewish people. Whoever the force behind it is should have some kind of power. And they had that power in the early 20 century (when they had no state of their own) - to demand Israel from Britain.
Self interest would explain the Soros part. But it seems to me that it does not explain the programs of "returning to Israel", DNA testing to determine who is "Jewish enough", AIPAC and the rest.
So, just like you said yourself - it's not about all of the Jews. it's about the religious ones who live in sheltered communities and are often very orthodox or very Zionist. Like the community in the documentary Love Thy Neighbor
All of this talk brings us back to your original question really - Zionism vs Self interest of the rich Jews. You can now see why Zionism is so much more criticized then the self interest of banking organizations. In the framework of rich Jews - they are just after the shekel. Porn brings them money - they sell porn. Any person would do the same in their position. However in the framework of Zionism - they are guided by religious text with ideas of Jewish supremacy imprinted therein. That would be much more sinister and much more worthy of opposition.
