The editing this season.

I haven't seen a confessional count, but I imagine it was skewed torwards Mike and went Mike > Rodney > Dan > Carolyn > Shirin > Jenn > Sierra.

Then consider the types of confessional.

  • Mike was given this complex array of confessionals - with recurring themes of hard work and faith (consider CBS' main audience)

  • Rodney generally got complaining ones or "I'm in control" ones -

  • Dan got buffoon ones - probably all he provided - and way too many of them

  • Carolyn got annoyance ones, success ones or not at all. There were a lot of episodes (particularly following her huge premiere confessional count) where she was UTR.

  • Shirin got a variety, emphasis on fan status; being an outsider

  • Jenn got a variety (largely due to her checking out after the Hali boot)

  • Sierra got pretty much only false suspense ones (suggesting a flip when she wasn't in a position to make a change) or inconsequential ones.

The thing is, a lot of her secret scenes demonstrate a really good social understanding of camp politics example and I think they could (and should) have edited her as more of a threat to Mike. Particularly challenge perfomance: she often outdid the men but rarely was a point made of it.

Rodney and Carolyn could have been edited more positively to look like threats too. Tyler definitely could have: all of his secret scenes are really good.

Instead it was this overwhelming "Mike is great, Mike works hard" edit. It was gross. From the Shirin boot on, there was no believable alternative winner. I just hope, in future seasons (especially season 31) the editors don't botch it like they did this one. Too much negativity and not enough levity. Waaaay too much Dan, too much Mike, no believable contenders other than Mike for the final four episodes - when clearly from cast response (Mike has a lot of praise for Rodney and Sierra; Shirin's jury speech alone should have told the editors to make Carolyn look more threatening) it was a better season out there than what they showed.
