[effort] Reddit Has No Empathy: A Case Study re: Homeless People

I live in Tampa, I'm an ancom, I've been homeless before when my family disowned me for being transgender. Can I give my side? Because it looks like our city is literally Hitler when that couldn't be further from the truth.

I don't agree with the law on principal, but it exists because Tampa has such good resources for homeless people that other cities in central Florida have been bussing people in to the point that we now have the highest rate of homelessness in the nation. They didn't create this law to kick homeless people to the side for the sake of property values. They did so to slow the incoming flow so we could help the people that are already here in an organized fashion.

Nothing is going to happen to you if you go and give out a few pre-packaged meals, and if you're serious about volunteering your time then there's plenty of organizations you can get involved with to be more effective at doing so. Food Not Bombs was given the opportunity to leave and they allowed themselves to be arrested as a political statement. An effective one at that since I'm seeing it outside of local media.

We're having to deal with this on a different scale than most people probably imagine. Propping up your own soup kitchen in the park just isn't the best way to go about doing things. I don't think the city has done everything right, but they're trying harder than most others.
