'Egg Boy' to donate money raised for him towards victims of Christchurch attack

I can see where you're coming from, and respect your opinion, but with this definition of assault-

"An assault is carried out by a threat of bodily harm coupled with an apparent, present ability to cause the harm."

I ask you sincerely, do you think this person ment to physically harm him, or do you feel that this is an act more of political speech? He was a bit abrasive in his hit of the egg, sure. But I don't think he ment him any bodily harm. Surely you cant think this should carry a charge of assault in the traditional sense, on par with a punch.

The politicans reaction is not in question in my inquery, as I think anyone suddenly hit from the back of the head with something regardless of the strength of it may be sudden and overdone.

I just want to know, do you think smacking someone with an egg, an innocent act not meant to cause bodily harm but more embarrassment, does that really constitute assult?
