Either I don't understand Libertarianism or it's dying out in me

In fact at the state level we are seeing more authoritarian actions imho.

I hate to be the one to say it, but it's probably just that state legislature are less likely to be super-gridlocked.

to fix usa federal politics, I think you need a couple things, a)a fixed timeframe for the senate to say "no" to any bill put forth to the house, otherwise they get it auto-passed. the senate shouldn't be able to just ignore the idea of governing.

b)double dissolution. if the Senate says no to the same bill put forth 3 times in one election cycle, then the house can say "alright, we're clearly unable to negotiate and govern, time for another election!" and call an election.

this would a) force the government to actually govern rather than play "fuck you, we won't do our jobs even to say no" b) have a mechanism to resolve "we can't negotiate between the different groups in power."
