There is a reason to this. But what I'm arguing here is that the reason is bollox. It's not understandable. It's pulled out of thin air to have a story.

Personal anecdote would probably help here: I immensely dislike how the author dropped the ball on many things and it was very frustrating because the start was actually good. I overlooked the Bitch-stuff to see Raphtalia growing up and everything. But at a certain point it turned into pure wish fulfilment.

Look at a good story for example. The reason for the willowisp in the flask in FMAB is perfectly understandable from a psychological standpoint. Born in a flask, sees his world as a flask, can never escape the flask in his head and kills everyone in his quest to true freedom, while actual freedom starts in yourself. Beautiful. That's how you write a character.

Bitchs motivation? At first: none. Then the author realized that this won't do, so he invents the church later to have a reason. Don't lie. There where months between those chapters. And then it went from none to "church said he bad"
