Elections Megathread: October 30 Edition.

Question: Why does it take so long to vote in the USA.

I've been voting in the UK for a very long time, and I cannot think of a time where I have had to queue longer than a few minutes.

You arrive, you state your name, they cross reference this to ensure you are a voter of that area (do not need to show ID which is stupid) you get given a sheet of paper with a list of names, you go to a standing desk tick the box, then fold the paper and put it in a sealed box by the exit.

I live in London and in my borough there must have been 10s of these stations each manned by 3+ people (no security) they looked like volunteers.

What is the American process and why does it take so long?
