Elendil's acting is world class and on par or better than the LOTR trilogy

LotR has a scene exactly like the scene you are describing. Theoden mourning the loss of his son who dies because of his own incompetence leading to the death of his line. Its one of the most impactful and memorable scenes in the Trilogy. This scene is clearly a reference/homage to that scene. If you like it more thats fine, but it is clearly an example that people do not only want men who are uber killing machines or something. Its what helped make people love Theoden, 20 years ago.

People who are struggling with the scene are mainly doing so because they have a 1 to 1 comparable situation and feel the other one was better. In my opinion one of the big reasons is that as the audience we cannot mourn with Elendil fully because we know Isildur cannot be dead.
