ELI5: Why do we become agitated/violent when we're pissed off?

Depends on your brain, chemistry and upbringing. Not all do, some become cold and distanced. Some just check you off a list and move on.

But, I worked in education. We talked about brain development and part of that is a nervous system. Partly a brain. In human cognition, the first bits that develop are closest to the nervous system (what a lot of peeps describe as the reptilian brain) it controls base level functions like breathing, heart rate, fight/flight/ freeze and some basic needs.

As you advance you get mid level brain- problem solving, coordination, a sense of object permanence and trust, hope, joy, a range of emotions

Then if you’re lucky you get to frontal lobe development. Reasoning and rationale as an adult, perspective with curiosity. Playful with reservations
