eli5 "Economics is a religion" what does that mean?

I'm truly confused where people are getting the idea that anything on or to do with the blockchain could have any impact on the internal workings of a video game. I keep seeing people talk about skins or even weapons that "you can just swap into a different game", but what incentive do all of these game developers have for implementing some untold number of skins in their game instead of working on the actual game? Like you do realize that any effort to actually implement a 'blockchain skin ownership game swapping mechanic' would have to be manually implemented by each developer for each skin. And to top it all off, as you've already mentioned steam marketplace exists, if someone were to implement a skin ownership and trading platform it could simply exist outside the blockchain entirely, there is no real benefit to using the blockchain over traditional server infrastructure, which the blockchain version would need to be mostly traditional anyway, because you couldn't even store the texture files for 1 skin on the blockchain. All of this proposed data would need to exist on some server somewhere; why not do the last 10% with traditional as well?
