Fantasy sports are essentially virtual sports leagues in which players select real-life players from that sport. The points your team earns are based upon the real-life performances of the players you have selected for your fantasy team. Basically, if the players you have chosen perform better in real life than your virtual opponent's players, you win.

Every league and sport has its own rules so the scoring can range from very complex to relatively simple.

There is no explanation for fantasy baseball though as a baseball game is a soul-crushing, mind-numbingly tedious event to be avoided at all costs whose only saving grace is that it is not cricket.
