ELI5: How everything in existence coming from absolutely nothing (Big Bang) is any less ridiculous than theological explanations?

The problem with having discussions like this through text is that they tend to leave a lot to conjecture. I didn't mean to come off as smug, I just have an opinion opposite yours that I wanted to share. And in essence, you are right in that I kind of do have an attitude that "dumb ole hoomans" can't see God yet. I think we are remarkable creatures and definitely advanced compared to other organisms living here, but with our intelligence comes a lot of arrogance.

I guess it all comes down to what you think god is, which is always what it comes down to. We could spend all day going back and forth, but what good would it do? The point being, how do we find evidence for something when we don't even know what it is we're looking for?

I mean really, what do we expect? We zoom out far enough with our telescope and see a pair of eyes blinking back at us? /s

There could be a multitude of evidence around us that is very easily obtained, if we only knew what it was. I personally believe there is far too much of a grey area to have any opinion on the matter and we just have to go off of what we have, while keeping our minds open to the possibilities. And sometimes the least probable scenario is what ends up coming to fruition. You never know until it happens.

As for other ancient cultures, I feel we know far too little even about their belief systems to really call their sanity into question. For all we know, it could all be a bunch of parables used to describe the world around them. It could have nothing to do with a gang of otherworldly creatures fighting for earthly dominance. We're talking about societies who broke incredible ground in the fields of science, architecture, astronomy, etc. Maybe they know a thing or two about what they're talking about?

I suppose I agree with others who say that science and theology can happily coexist and enhance each other. We are all just looking for the ultimate truth, and there are plenty of geniuses out there who subscribe to theologies for whatever reason they might have.
