ELI5: How come playing Counter Strike at 200FPS feels way smoother than playing at 60FPS even though my monitor is capped at 60FPS

I question the truth to that claim. The human eye can notice the difference between 24fps on a monitor and 144fps, for example. Regardless of our eye's "framerate", 144hz screens when used to their full potential are still noticeably smoother.

But the human eye does not see in frames. In fact, the eye tracks movement. They did an experiment where they asked people to pan their eyes over a landscape view and tracked eye movement and it was really jerky. You cannot pan your eyeballs smoothly.........until they added a moving object across the scene and the eyes tracked it and moved smoothly.

Our eyes aren't taking lots of snapshots, they are looking for movement. The very reason we can see video is because the frames are moving quick enough for our eyes and brains to not see the individual frames and instead assume smooth movement. Ramping up the frame rate for cinema adds more detail and apparently makes it more fake looking (I say apparently because I've never experienced it myself).

So I really question that fact.
