ELI5 If we're not sure on Jesus's birth year (4-6 BC supposedly), why is 1 BC set where it is?

Yes, I agree, but what makes an idea good or bad? Who decides? Making someone decide, isn't that in of itself a bad idea?

Limiting people's individual right to perception on the basis of morality is a bad idea. It's people's inherent right to perceive the past and future in terms of two letters. Or in terms of lunar eclipses, cycles, or even pulsar intervals.

If we simply let people say and think their perceptions freely, within obvious practical reason, and outside of (bad idea/good idea) judgement, then our diversity increases, our net amount of ideas increases, and our ability to create a future of intuition, innovation, from new ideas increases. Putting ideas on a scale of good to bad really makes every human an evil being, cuz we all have bad ideas emerging from our unconscious. Just let people be, and put your convictions where they actually can reduce suffering in today's world.
