ELI5: Why isn't West Virginia in the ACC?

1) They have really bad facilities. If they were to become P5 even with the expansion they would be very small compared to other non-pac-12 publics. It isn't just stadium capacity but Nippert being in a very bad location that makes future expansion impossible.

I don't think our facilities are bad at all especially since the new renovation hasn't been experienced by anyone yet. We actually tripled the amount of women's restrooms and added 5,000 luxury seats to the facility. If you look at the trend around all sports teams and schools are moving away from high amounts of general seating and moving more towards a club/luxury seat model. Look at the 9'ers new stadium as a perfect example of it.

It isn't just stadium capacity but Nippert being in a very bad location that makes future expansion impossible.

I've seen studies saying that Nippert can get up to 50k seats if needed. Future expansion is definitely not out of the question. It'll just be tough to get the administration to approve of anything because they have a specific vision for what the campus looks like and a behemoth Nippert isn't in that plan along with demolishing the building in the south endzone.

a very old stadium is a triple punch.

Since when is that ever seen as a negative? The new renovation is not only revamping the press box but tripling the amount of restrooms and adding a ton more amenities. I don't see people knocking LSU's stadium which is 1 year younger than Nippert.

They also have a capacity/student body ratio that isn't just bad for P5 standards, but is one of the worst in all of FBS.

I agree with this but like I said premium seating is where the trend is heading.
