ELI5: Suicide is listed as a side effect of over 200 common medications. How, specifically, do these medications increase the risk of suicide?

Meds suck, but we gotta take em to survive. If I didn't have CF I would of probably been one of those no-meds kind of people (hopefully not an anti-vaxer lol, but who knows).

Personally I've always been cautious about how certain medications effect me and when I notice a change in thinking I take note. For example when I was younger certain inhaled antibiotics drove me crazy with what I could only describe as OCD like tendencies. I would watch an educational T.V show, or read a story on a web page, then constantly test myself and try to recall that information. I was constantly studying, nothing really important to my everyday life, and for no reason, over and over and over again. When I went off that medication it stopped.

I've never had an experience where I could pinpoint a medication that made me feel suicidal, but I'd imagine the process would work in a similar way. First comes the ideation, then intent, then the creation of a plan.
