ELI5:Why is Voter ID viewed as racist in the US?

When you register to vote you get a card that testifies to that fact. Registration already requires validation of citizenship and residency.

Thats how I would view an ID system working. If you have to show that card at the poling station in order to get your ballot then I have nothing else to add to improve the situation.

How it sounds from the other side of the pond (correct or not) when listening to you guys debate on here and youtube is that you have no way to ensure that the people voting are actually citizens. The dems are, by their own admission, massively in favour of illegal immigration and sanctuary cities, becasue they get most of their votes from minorities. As a result they will not do anything to stop illegal immigration (like build a wall, increase funds for ICE etc) and will not do anything to ensure that those turning up at the ballot are registered citizens.

It makes the Dems sound like they are afraid of enforcing the rules around immigration and voting because they wouldnt ever get in power again if they did.
