Why do elite NBA players need agents?

it's not just doing the work. it's also being trained to think like an agent.

think came up while I was teaching neuro in grad school by explaining that it wasn't enough to learn the material. it was learning to think like a neuroscientist.

neuro is so far on the cutting edge that much of how the mind is simply unknown. as such ppl going into the field have to be comfortable with "fuzzy" info or rapidly changing info. even more so than most other sciences.

as such we specifically designed the intro course to be unusually difficult in that it relied heavily on your ability to infer information that was not explicitly taught because it's such a critical skill in that field that people need to be screened out early or they're absolutely fucked later.

almost anyone could in theory read a contract. but not just anyone can read it like an agent.
