Elizabeth Warren will drop out of the 2020 presidential race after disappointing Super Tuesday showing

White people citing family lore to claim native ancestry is actually a very common trope in the US. I grew up always being proudly told, usually by family elders, that we “have Mohawk in us”. Most of the kids I went to school with were told similar stories by their grandparents. There’s usually absolutely no proof or evidence to support these claims. I always assumed the same thing happened with Warren: someone in her family probably frequently mentioned, with much pride, that the family “has X tribe’s blood in them” and Warren took that as fact and used it without proof or evidence. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if this is something that happens often and Warren was just high profile enough to get called out on it.
