Elon Musk to start hyperloop project in Maryland, officials say

Thanks for the response.

My main gripe is that there is a lot of tax dollars being dumped into this project, yet there isn't a proof of concept that it works even on a 1 km track. How can we justify building infrastructure for something that's not readily viable.

Not to mention, how much energy will it take to create a vacuum along the entire proposed track off 600km? And it's supposed to be powered (or at least offset) by solar panels, when the technology for solar panels isn't even at that level? There are far too many obstacles to overcome, and by overcome I mean giant leaps and breakthroughs of our current technological limitations, to be thinking this is going to happen anytime soon. Yet everyone's on the bandwagon and ready to toss money at it because it's a feel good dream lead by our Lord and Saviour Mr. CEO of Tesla Elon Musk.

Again, I'm not saying it's not possible. I'm just saying prove it can work before we take the plunge, because it really feels like this whole thing is emulating the Marge vs. the Monorail episode of the Simpsons. A page of proposals is not proof.
