You didn't hear it wrong. That's what Elon himself said on Twitter, making it clear, or even more clear, that all of this "free speech" posturing is about amplifying certain voices (overwhelmingly the worst ones) and suppressing others for the sake of his own interests.

One fucked up part of this is that he draws that line with his dead infant but not his trans daughter at all. He's chomping at the bit to usher all of the transphobic hatemongers back to center stage despite his trans daughter, but I guess that's not surprising considering how badly he's treated her.

Even shitty, homophobic Republican politicians usually do an about-face when their kid comes out, but Elon just doubles down on his own public transphobia. When his shitty treatment of his daughter results in her changing her name in part to no longer be seen as related to him, he doesn't blame his own toxic narcissism and bigotry (despite being called out by his own wife about it publicly on Twitter); he blames the "Neo-Marxists" of higher education, claiming "communism" made her hate all rich people.

That is, before he dismissed this falling out with his child with the ever so flippant "can't win them all."
