Emotional downturn since around 30?

Hmm, it sounds like for you, perhaps meaning was found in living in the moment? When growing up, there is always so much new to do and see. However, as "full-fledged" adults, we're much more limited by... well, bills, taxes, other obligations, etc. So, living in the moment becomes that much harder.

Hah, I actually did work abroad for a while, but I'm just not that great with people and you really need to be for most travel jobs.

Ah, fair, and too bad. FWIW, I do have an acquaintance who works in hospital equipment sanitation (also not at all a people person). He gets paid decently and has a ton of benefits (his role is unionized). His work schedule will be quite grueling when he is working, but then he is able to take off and travel for weeks on end. He has... pretty much no savings, BUT spends roughly 1/2 of his year traveling (dude is deep into air miles rewards programs and the like) and seems very happy with his life. Idk if that sounds like something that would appeal to you, but maybe there are jobs out there that will better allow you to pursue your passion of seeing the world?
