Enabler Professors

I have encountered this in a slightly different context. I taught martial arts for a living and ran my own branches. We had a curriculum to follow, expectations and many things the same as academia including gradings and paper work and the rest of it. Each branch is run as a branch with adult and student classes and we answer to a master who graded all of New Zealand and most of Australia. I taught for 17yrs under two different styles and wrote the curriculum for the second style. The first style was a military atyle and the second style was a competitive style so competitions and what have you. I left and quit teaching said second style because of my health but also because of the enabling behaviour. People were being passed and promoted to higher ranks without being capable. They could not demonstrate their knowledge let alone give oral amswers during examinations and yet they would be promoted. They wanted to rush to promote me in a process that in style one would have been an additional 10yrs or more. But it became so common it was really problematic and really drove me to leave. But, the level of quality from 1st dan down was truly atrocious when you looked below the surface and beyond a small handfull that were capable. It was really frustrating that the students could do no wrong and if you did not pass them then mum would come along and try to lay complaints higher up the chain. It really made me miss the first style despite it's political problems. Here's hoping style number 2 has since imploded. Because with people at green belt level now at blackbelt, I wouldn't be there for quality, nor the instruction.
